![]() Clamp-on snow guards have a unique mechanism for pinching to the seams using bolts, nuts, and washers. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about leaks or ruining the roof warranty. The clamps don’t penetrate the roof surface. Clamp-on Snow Guards for Metal RoofĬlamping is strictly used to mount rail and bar-style snow guards. The S-5! Versa-Bracket is a good example of a mechanically attached snow retention system. ![]() Alternatively, use large color bracket mounts for bar or rail guard systems. Use #14 screws with neoprene washers to minimize leak risk when installing pad-style guards. The screws must penetrate the lumber or metal framing beneath the roof for a sturdy hold. However, they pose a familiar challenge – leaks. Therefore, they’re the go-to snow retention systems for metal roofs in regions with heavy snowing. Mechanically attached snow retention systems stand out for their high load-bearing capacity. It’s applicable for pad-style guards, snow bars, and rail-type snow retention systems and can be used on all metal roof systems except a standing seam metal roof. Mechanically fastened snow retention systems are screwed to the roof surface. So, consider professional layouts instead of DIY. However, note that load balancing is critical for pad-style snow retention systems. Additionally, there’s no risk of water leaks because there’s no penetration. The attachment method allows you to attach any polycarbonate snow guard to any metal roof panel profile, including standing seam roofs. The main advantage of gluing snow guards to the roof is flexibility. The adhesive takes 6-72 hours to cure fully, though it takes longer at temperatures below 50F. The method is most commonly used to attach polycarbonate (pad-style) snow guards. But more importantly, it’s about as strong as other options, albeit less durable. Gluing is the most cost-effective way to attach snow retention systems to the roof. Here’s what you need to know about each 1. The four main ways to attach snow guards are glue, clamps, screws, or peel-and-stick. There are two main ways to categorize snow guards: attachment method and style/design. Worse still, it poses a serious injury risk to people below the roof edge. The absence of snow guards increases the risk of a “roof avalanche,” the sudden release of snow and ice.Īn avalanche can damage your gutters, skylights, and the lower ends of the shingles. It temporarily retains the snow, allowing it to melt completely or fall to the ground in small amounts. What’s a Snow Guard?Ī snow guard, also known as a snow retention system, is a roof structure designed to prevent snow and ice from falling suddenly or in large amounts. In addition, colorGard snow retention systems are available in multiple colors to match your metal roof. It’s compatible with all metal roof panel profiles and the only snow retention system covered by a lifetime warranty. So, we’ve developed this guide to help you choose the best snow guard system for your property.h Best snow guards for metal roofsĬolorGard is the most popular snow guard system for metal roofs. Unfortunately, the sheer number of snow guard designs, styles, and attachment methods can make selection challenging. They prevent snow from falling suddenly from the roof, averting possible damage and accidents on the ground. Snow guards are indispensable if you live in a region with heavy snowfall. You sure? Ok, but be warned, you will likely die trying to do this. The Reaper Leviathan is a huge species of fauna, about the size of a Cyclops. It's so big, in fact, that it's the 5th biggest species in Subnautica, and the 3rd largest aggressive species. Usually, the first time you will see one is when you attempt to invade the Aurora. Reaper Leviathans guard both the front and the back of the ship, however their positions are not consistent and may vary between games. 6 each (yeah, 6) also are found in the Mountains and the Dunes. (Speaking of which, one of them may spawn directly on the right of Mountain Island, right next to the Quarantine Enforcement Platform. So don't head in from the right side of the island.) A Reaper Leviathan skeleton can also be found in the Inactive Lava Zone. You should be able to tell if one is nearby from their heavily distinguishable roar, there really isn't anything else like it. Reaper Leviathans can perform many different attacks, all of which will screw you over. They can swim fast enough to catch up to you if you make a break for it on your Seaglide or Seamoth. They will bite you for 80 damage, 4/5 of your health bar. ![]() If you health is already below 80, though, they will instead grab onto you with their mandibles and EAT YOU ALIVE. The Reaper Leviathan is also capable of using their mandibles to grab onto the Seamoth and Prawn Suit, crushing it in their grip and dealing massive damage to it, sometimes up to 60%. They have also been observed taking the Seamoth and smashing it into the seabed, destroying it instantly. Other Leviathans follow suit in terms of size and aggressiveness.Īlthough it is unable to grab the Cyclops, it will still repeatedly ram into it in an attempt to get to you which will deal massive damage to it. They all have their share of differences, though. Ghost Leviathans can come in two sizes: Juvenile and Adult. The Juveniles are found in the Lost River and are a bit bigger than a Reaper, but they don’t do as much damage and move comparably slowly. They also seem a bit less aggressive, but that might just be me. The Adults are found in the Grand Reef, Blood Kelp Zones, and the Void, and are much larger than their smaller counterparts. ![]() From personal experience, they seem to have somewhat identical stats in other places and in my opinion are significantly easier to kill than a Reaper. To attack their prey, they simply swim right at them while releasing a signature scream which can be used to tell that they’re mad at you. The Sea Dragon Leviathans are even large than the aforementioned Leviathans. Luckily, they’re only found deep in the Lava Zones, and you can easily tell one is nearby from their impressive roars. They seem to be less aggressive than Reapers and they certainly swim slower than them, but they make up for this with a massive health pool and extremely powerful attacks which consist of biting your vehicle, breathing fire, spitting up flaming rocks at you, and swatting at you with their arms which is powerful enough to overturn a Cyclops. Speaking of which, many of their attacks will deal massive damage to the Cyclops and will most certainly deal either massive damage or an instant kill to YOU, so if you’re wise you’d prefer to keep your distance. But if you’re hoping to kill one, all I can say is good luck to you. You should always know your enemy before you attack. #Reaper leviathan subnautica gif how to#. ![]() Ps/ A Video Editor I know has switched from FCPX and Premiere Pro to using Davinci Resolve full stop, the latest version allows for state of the art video editing as well as color grading and he now swears by it. So if you’re interested be sure to click here to learn more. In my recently released Guide To Capturing Cinematic Images With Your DSLR, I go into detail on compression, workflows, color grading and more (amongst lots of camera/lighting tips). I really like what Adobe is trying to do with Premiere, and it does have such a great feature set, but unfortunately I don’t find that all of the features work as well as they could… I’m sure as time goes on this will be perfected, but for now I am sticking with FCP X whenever I can! In a lot of ways this is fairly representative of my experience with Premiere Pro as a whole. In fact I even did another output test later on with Premiere Pro set to 20,000 kbps and FCP X only set to 10,000 kbps and still the FCP X image was noticeably higher quality, so clearly something is up. ![]() The image from Premiere is so much blockier, less detailed, and muddy looking, not to mention that the colors aren’t at all accurate. The top is FCP X and the bottom is Premiere Pro:Īfter seeing this I can confidently say that I will not be compressing to H.264 using Premiere Pro or Adobe Media Encoder any more. To show you the difference more definitively, take a look at these screen grabs which have been blown up to 400% so you can see how different the compression actually is. And clearly the Premiere Pro image has a more of a reddish tinge to it that is inconsistent with my color job. The compression artifacts aren’t as noticeable when you’re looking at a still (as opposed to the video file) but they are obviously there. The top image is from FCP X and the bottom is from Premiere Pro (click to enlarge): Often I will use a higher setting (up to 20,000 kbps), but there are many times especially on longer format projects that I need to keep the bit rate down so it can be shared online, so I kept the settings for this test at 10,000 kbps. Both FCP X and Premiere Pro were set to output a high quality H.264 file at 10,000 kbps. I really wanted to share some screen grabs from this test on my blog so that some of you can see exactly what’s going on here. I ran this same test again using Compressor and Adobe Media Encoder and had the exact same results. So I went back to FCP X and did an output using the exact same settings and there was absolutely no question that the FCP X output looked far better. I even went back and re-exported the file to make sure that all my settings were in place – including checking off ‘Use Maximum Render Quality’, but still I had the same poor results. It was blocky, over compressed, and even the colors seemed a bit off. On a recent project of mine though, I noticed that when using my standard H.264 settings in Adobe Premiere Pro the result of the final product didn’t look quite right. This was especially true up until one of the more recent FCP X updates which seemed to have improved the render and output performance noticeably… But nonetheless because of this difference in speed I got into a habit of compressing my long format video files with Premiere or Adobe Media Encoder (even if I was cutting in FCP X), simply because it was faster. While my preference for straight up editing has largely leaned towards FCP X, I also use Premiere Pro all the time which led me to notice that exports from Premiere Pro generally seemed to be faster than exports from FCP X. Like many filmmakers today, I use a number of different NLE’s and post tools on a daily basis as every project has different needs and requirements. There have been certain settings that have worked really well for me over the years with regards to H.264 compression, but it wasn’t until this year that I noticed a staggering difference in the final quality of the files that I would output from Premiere Pro as opposed to FCP X. I’ve always been really picky when it comes to compressing my video files (especially for web), because the image quality of the final product can be made or broken at this stage. Eventually, you got better at reading and better at seeing, so you would now look at DOG in one eye fixation and your brain was able to take in the information–dog. You would look at the letter “D,” then your eyes would look at the letter “O, ” and finally, your eyes would move over to look at the letter “G.” You would fixate (or rest) your eyes on three different places. When you were first learning to read, you learned to read each letter–D–O–G. To best read a manuscript, we need to borrow some items from speed reading. Many people run their hands down the page to keep their place while others clutch the podium and never let go. ![]() Finally, it is very difficult for most people to gesture when reading a manuscript. Speakers who lack the skill of manuscript reading will have very little eye contact and when they look up it will be in only short bursts–rarely long enough to lock eyes with anyone in the audience. It can be so tempting to lock your eyes on the page where it is safe without ever looking up at the audience. I would argue that it is one of the most difficult of all types because your goal is to read without appearing to read. The disadvantage to a manuscript is if not done properly, your speech may feel like merely an “essay with legs.” Speaking from a manuscript is a skill. Politically speaking, a manuscript can be helpful to help keep you on track and to help you say only the things that you mean to say. For example, many people like to have written copies of the toast given to them at a special occasion or a copy of the eulogy to the loved one. Another advantage to a manuscript is you can share your speech with others both for proofing and for reference. By managing the exact wording, you can better control the emotional tone. ![]() The advantage to speaking with a manuscript is you have your speech in front of you giving you an opportunity to plan interesting wordplays and advanced language techniques. They often have speech writers who take their ideas and make them sound professional, and they likely have several people look it over for any offensive words or questionable phrases. Politicians often speak from manuscripts because there will be people weighing the meaning of each word. When giving a eulogy and you are likely to experience strong emotions, having your words written out and in front of you will be very helpful. ![]() There will be times when reading from a manuscript is helpful. |
